Setting up your own Ark: Survival Evolved or Ark: Survival Ascended world is like growing a whole base from a single seed. To get started with ARK server hosting all you have to do is pick your package; the moment your order is approved the server is set up automatically and your control panel and connection details are delivered within seconds. From the panel you can adjust dozens of variables in a single click, including the map, player limit, XP and harvest multipliers, taming speed and the day/night cycle, turning your server from a vanilla survival run into a fully customized PvP or PvE world.
Ark is as demanding on hardware as it is fun to play. Enormous maps, hundreds of dinosaurs simulated at once, building pieces and player inventories are all constantly held in memory. That is why the most critical component in Ark server performance is RAM. Insufficient memory means stutter during teleports, slow loading, failed saves and — worst of all — the loss of unsaved progress. On modded servers in particular, each added mod introduces new assets and data tables to the map, so memory requirements grow exponentially. Server Sizing
Choosing the right package depends on your player count and mod load. The short guide below helps you pick the Ark server size that best fits your needs:
- Small groups (2-10 players, vanilla or light mods): the 16 GB RAM Raptor package is enough for you and your friends to survive comfortably on a single map.
- Mid-sized modded communities (10-30 players): the 24 GB RAM Carno package easily handles popular mods like Structures Plus and Awesome Spyglass, offering the ideal balance.
- Large, heavily modded servers (30+ players, cluster / map transfers): we recommend the 32 GB RAM T-Rex package to cope with dozens of mods and heavy building traffic.
Steam Workshop Mods
One of Ark's greatest strengths is its enormous Steam Workshop ecosystem. Adding mods through our advanced panel requires no complex file work; you simply enter the mod's Workshop ID or search for it in the list. On the next start the server downloads the mods automatically and keeps them up to date. Using the same method you can install extra maps (such as Ragnarok, Fjördur and The Center) and move your server into a completely different world. The mod order matters: the map and core mods should sit at the top of the list and cosmetic add-ons at the bottom. This keeps your mods running smoothly without conflicts.
How to add a Workshop mod in 3 steps
- Find the mod IDThe number at the end of the Steam Workshop page address is the mod's ID; you can also type its name into the panel's search box.
- Add it to the panel and order itEnter the ID into the mod list. Keep the map and core mods at the top and cosmetic add-ons at the bottom.
- Restart the serverMods download automatically on first start; the panel detects and applies later updates on its own.
